A combined delay and throughput proportional scheduling scheme for differentiated services

چکیده
The proportional differentiation model is a newly introduced approach for differentiated services networks. This paper proposes and evaluates a scheduling mechanism for the combined control of delay and throughput metrics, according to the proportional differentiation model. The scheme is based on the well known Little’s Law. A moving window averaging mechanism and an active queue management scheme are simultaneously, and respectively used to achieve control over the relative throughputs as well as the relative delays between classes. The scheme does away with measurement of the actual packet delays, and state information is minimized. Some feasibility bounds are presented, and a simulation study shows the effectiveness of this scheme.

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks
Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...
متن کاملChannel-Adaptive GPS Scheduling for Heterogeneous Multimedia in CDMA Networks
Wireless packet-scheduling is a crucial component for providing quality of service (QoS) in CDMA networks. In this paper, we propose channel-adaptive rate-scheduling based on Generalized Processor Sharing (CAGPS) to guarantee minimum service rate and to provide proportional fairness among heterogeneous multimedia traffic for QoS differentiation. The CA-GPS scheduler assigns different GPS weight...
متن کاملDelay controlled proportional fair scheduling in Rayleigh fading wireless channel
In this study, the authors consider a delay control problem with proportional fair scheduling in time-varying wireless channels. For proportional fairness of transmission rates among users, a congestion control scheme is proposed for guaranteeing both throughput and delay of the wireless network. Specifically, a scheduling weight is introduced to control queue lengths without degrading the thro...

متن کاملPerformance evaluation of prioritized scheduling with buffer management for differentiated services architectures
Differentiated services (DiffServ) is an architecture for the Internet in which various applications are supported using a simple classification scheme. Packets entering the DiffServ domain are marked depending on the packets’ class. In this paper we introduce a versatile service and buffering scheme for different classes in a differentiated services Internet. The objective of this scheme is to...
